A Hollywood Smile is a standardized result – white, perfectly straight teeth that tend to look the same on everyone. A Natural Smile follows the opposite approach. It starts with the patient’s facial features and personality, and only then defines the shape, color, and character of the teeth. The goal is not for the patient to look different after treatment, but to still recognize themselves.
The difference lies in the clinical protocol. A Hollywood Smile starts with the teeth and adapts the face to them. A Natural Smile starts with the face, lip dynamics, and individual character, then selects the teeth accordingly.

Before every treatment, we analyze the smile line, facial anatomical features, skin tone, hair and eye color, and the patient’s emotional and personality profile. Everything that has traditionally been overlooked in conventional aesthetic dentistry. Without this analysis, there is no preparation, no impression, and no laboratory work.

Facial anatomical characteristics
The shape of the face – oval, square, heart-shaped, or elongated – guides the choice of tooth crown form. Not all shapes suit every face. The lower third of the face height is also assessed, as it determines the overall vertical dimension.
Skin tone, hair color, and eye color
The shade of the ceramic is not selected based on the tooth alone, but in the context of the entire face. Warm skin tones and dark hair require a different base shade than fair skin and blue eyes, even when both cases target an A1 shade on the shade guide.
Patient’s personality
A structured pre-treatment questionnaire and a brief consultation are used to determine the level of individuality in the final dental design. Patients with higher levels of extraversion typically prefer smoother, brighter smiles. Patients with higher openness and conscientiousness more often request stronger character definition and tend to avoid excessive gingival display. This relationship has been described in clinical studies using the Five-Factor Model of personality on a sample of over 400 participants.
The context of the Emotional Dentistry approach
The character and emotional component of smile design is not our invention. Within the DSD methodology, the concept of Emotional Dentistry was developed – an approach in which the smile is not treated as an isolated object, but as part of the patient’s identity. Natural Smile builds on this foundation and adds a structured written record of the patient’s personality profile in the clinical chart, which is often missing in everyday DSD practice.
Three types of treatments within the same concept
Natural Smile is not limited to veneers. It covers three types of aesthetic rehabilitation. Veneers are used when sufficient enamel is present, crowns are indicated when the tooth is more severely damaged or non-vital, and implant-supported prosthetic restorations are used when teeth are missing. The initial analysis is the same in all three cases.
Veneers
e.max veneers made of lithium disilicate as a standard option (€300 per tooth) and non-prep veneers when anatomy allows fabrication without tooth reduction (€350 per tooth). Preparation for e.max veneers ranges from 0.3 to 0.7 mm, guided by a mock-up. Lifespan is 10 to 15 years with regular check-ups.
Crowns
Metal-free zirconium crowns (€250) and e.max aesthetic crowns (€270). Metal-free crowns are selected when the tooth is no longer suitable for a veneer. The color and characterization follow the same facial protocol as with veneers.
Implant-supported prosthetics
Nobel Biocare implants (Nobel Parallel €690, Nobel Active €790) and Alpha Bio (€395). Implant placement is performed by Dr. Zoran Stajić, a specialist in oral surgery. Implant positioning is planned based on the future prosthetic work, not the other way around. The implant crown is fabricated in the same ceramic material and with the same characterization as the rest of the restoration, ensuring that the transition between natural tooth and restoration remains invisible.

Why was the concept created?
Dr. Luka Novaković: “In recent years, whenever I performed aesthetic procedures or full-mouth rehabilitations, patients consistently requested teeth that look as natural as possible. This is where the concept emerged, based on creating the most natural possible teeth, whether veneers, crowns, or implant-supported prosthetic work.”
The concept did not originate as a marketing tool for individual veneers. It was developed from the most complex clinical cases -patients requiring full-mouth rehabilitation, where an error in the initial analysis could result in a double-digit number of ceramic restorations. From such cases, analysis of facial features, smile line, and personality transitioned into a standard protocol even for single veneers, crowns, and implant cases.
What makes Natural Smile the first concept of its kind in Serbia?
According to our knowledge, Natural Smile is the first clinical protocol in Serbia that formally introduces the patient’s personality profile as a mandatory step within standard aesthetic diagnostics, alongside facial analysis and smile line evaluation. Similar individual elements can be found in the DSD practices of many clinics. What is new is the integration of these components into a named protocol with written documentation that remains part of the patient’s clinical record.

Who is behind the concept?
The Natural Smile concept was created by Dr. Luka Novaković, Doctor of Dental Medicine. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Niš. He works at Dentalux, with a focus on aesthetic dentistry, Digital Smile Design, and digital dentistry. He completed postgraduate studies in implant prosthetics and implantology at NYU College of Dentistry in New York in June 2026. He has been trained at leading international congresses in aesthetic dentistry and is the author of aesthetic cases produced in his practice. Natural Smile is his original concept, and he personally oversees all phases of treatment within this approach.
All stages of therapy within the Natural Smile concept – from initial analysis to final cementation — are personally managed by Dr. Luka. Implant placement and other surgical procedures within Natural Smile cases are performed by Dr. Zoran Stajić, a specialist in oral surgery at Dentalux.
Common patient questions
Is Natural Smile a concept or a brand?
It is a clinical protocol. The name exists so patients know what they are committing to and so that treatments remain consistent and comparable over time. There is no marketing “technology” behind the term.
What do I get for €300 per e.max veneer?
An e.max lithium disilicate veneer designed according to facial analysis and personality profile, mock-up with an in-mouth trial before preparation, temporary veneer, final cementation, follow-up check-ups after 7 and 30 days, and a 5-year warranty with regular maintenance visits.
What is the difference between a non-prep veneer costing €350 and a standard e.max veneer?
A non-prep veneer is made without tooth preparation and is indicated only when anatomy allows it, in cases of ideal tooth position and sufficient space for correction. A standard e.max veneer requires minimal enamel preparation of 0.3 to 0.7 mm, but it is applicable in a wider range of clinical situations.
Is Natural Smile suitable for men?
Yes. The character of a smile in men is typically different from that in women. This includes less prominence of the lateral incisors compared to the central incisors, a straighter smile line, and less translucency at the incisal edge. These characteristics are incorporated into the treatment plan through facial analysis, not through a “male” or “female” catalog.
What happens if my veneer breaks?
e.max veneers can, in rare cases, fracture due to mechanical trauma or unreported bruxism. The warranty covers unconditional replacement within 5 years if the patient has attended regular check-ups. Outside this period, a new veneer is made following the same procedure.
Will I be able to eat normally after veneers?
Yes, immediately after completion. However, hard foods such as cracking nuts in their shells, opening packages with your teeth, or biting ice should be avoided. This is a permanent recommendation, not a temporary restriction.
How much will my teeth be whitened before veneers?
Laser whitening of both jaws at Dentalux costs €195 and is performed when the lower jaw is visible in the smile and no prosthetic rehabilitation is planned for it. The upper work is then matched to the new shade of the natural lower teeth. If both upper and lower segments are being treated, whitening is not necessary.
Can I get the warranty in written form?
Yes, you receive a written warranty for the entire treatment, including serial numbers of the implants and details of the crown or veneer material. The warranty remains valid even if you move abroad, as long as you continue to attend regular check-ups.
What implants do you use and who places them?
We use Nobel Biocare implants (Nobel Parallel €690 and Nobel Active €790) and Alpha Bio implants (€395). Implant placement is performed by Dr. Zoran Stajić, a specialist in oral surgery. Dentalux is a long-term partner of Nobel Biocare. The choice of implant system depends on the clinical indication, bone quality, and the patient’s budget.
Do you perform Natural Smile treatment for patients over 60? Y
Yes. In older patients, crowns are more often chosen instead of veneers due to reduced enamel and the more frequent presence of old fillings. The facial and personality analysis remains the same.
What if I want a Hollywood look instead of a Natural Smile?
It is technically possible, but Hollywood-style restorations are not performed under the Natural Smile protocol. If a patient insists on extremely white, uniform teeth without characterization, this is a valid preference and is carried out as a standard aesthetic treatment within Dentalux’s regular offering, with separate documentation.
Can I see examples of work?
Yes. Photo and video documentation of treatments is available during the consultation, with written consent from the patients whose cases are shown. Only a portion is published online due to privacy reasons.
